INTRODUCTION POST

The Problem

Across Africa and its global diaspora, political and economic systems continue to reflect the enduring impacts of imperialism, extraction, and oligarchic control. Many countries remain governed by structures designed to serve foreign interests, privatized capital, and local political elites rather than the people themselves. Civic engagement is often reduced to mere symbolism, while real decision-making power remains opaque and unaccountable. Palava Hut News was created to confront this reality.

The Solution

Palava Hut News exists to disrupt this imbalance and offer a new perspective. We broadcast solid, true, and underreported stories affecting Africans across the globe, with political education at its core. We believe that everyday people must have the tools, knowledge, and space to organize, propose solutions, and shape policies that directly and consistently affect their lives.

About Us

Palava Hut News is an offshoot of the Palava Hut, a digital civic space inspired by the traditional palava hut, an online forum rooted in liberation, accountability, and people-centered governance. Grounded in transparency and community power, Palava Hut News exists to inform participants and reclaim civic action in Liberia and Africa as a whole.

Our vision is one of collective independence. We imagine a future where trust in public institutions is rebuilt through alliance with the masses rather than loyalty to donors, corporations, or foreign governments. From grassroots organizing to city halls to digital spaces, Palava Hut News supports people in moving from political frustration to tangible action.

Beyond reporting, Palava Hut News is committed to building political consciousness. We connect current events to the historical and structural forces that shape them: colonialism, capitalist arrangements of the economy, resource extraction, and cultural domination. By naming these systems, we aid readers to understand not only what is happening, but how power operates and who benefits from its continuation.

We strive for a globally connected Pan-African community rooted in shared history, solidarity, and collectivism. Like a real palava hut, our platform encourages dialogue, debate, and principled dissent. Readers are not passive consumers of information but active participants in shaping their communities and resisting systems of domination.

Palava Hut News stands for an unapologetically people-centered future. By centering the people, Palava Hut News works to empower the process of civic engagement into a living practice of resistance, self-determination, and liberation for Africans across the globe.

Palava Hut News is a joint initiative started by Daniel Kai and shared with Felicia Jaygbay. They are both college students in the United States with Liberian backgrounds. Daniel is the founder of Palava Hut and hosts community events in Baltimore. Felicia, while being a practiced writer, has always been invested in local politics and social theory, and continues to organize in her home state of Virginia.
